Competition Details

1) Objectives

  • To create an opportunity for Chinese cultural exchange amongst students from primary and secondary state schools and international schools in Singapore through Chinese cultural performances
  • To provide a platform for children and teenagers from Singapore to showcase their Chinese language proficiencies and other talents
  • To promote the beauty of Chinese culture to children and teenagers in Singapore

3) Participants
We welcome students who are not Mainland Chinese nationals to participate in this competition. Students must be currently enrolled in primary or secondary state schools or international schools in Singapore. Students who are native speakers can also enter the competition providing they have lived overseas before they turned 6.

4) Category
There are three competition categories:
a. Pre-school                  :         Participants under 6 years old
b. Primary School          :         Participants between 7-12 years old
c. Secondary School      :         Participants between 13-16 years old

5) Competition Details
Each school is able to nominate a group of 1-15 students for each category. All participants must perform in both the language round and talent round.
a. Language Round: Recital/Speaking/Singing (Performance time: 5 minutes)
– Suggested Performance for Recital: Nursery rhymes, poems, proses, story etc.
– Suggested Performance for Speaking/Singing:  Chinese crosstalks, tongue twisters, songs etc.
b. Talent Round: Chinese Talent Performance (Performance time: 7 minutes)
– Suggested Performance:  Chinese musical instruments, dancing, traditional Chinese opera, calligraphy, martial arts etc.

6) Performance Criteria
a. Recital/Speaking/Singing (45%)
–  Accurate pronunciation, good voice projection, fluent and natural, graceful, sincere and passionate
b. Chinese Talent Performance (45%)
– Good portrayal of Chinese cultural elements, creative, inspirational and skilled performance
c. Others (10%)
– Compliance with the rules and regulations in terms of performance time and the number of participants

7) Prizes
The prizes for each category are listed below:
a. 1st Prize:
– 1 winner
– Cash Prize of S$500 and trophy for the school
– Winner to receive a certificate of achievement
b. 2nd Prize:
– 2 winners
– Cash Prize of S$300 and trophy for the school(s)
– Winners to receive certificates of achievement
c. 3rd Prize:
– 3 winners
– Cash Prize of S$150 and trophy for school(s)
– Winners to receive certificates of achievement
d. Merit Awards:
– Several winners
– Trophies for the school(s)
– Winners to receive certificates of achievement

8) Competition date and venue
a. Date        :         19th November 2016 (Saturday)
b. Venue     :         Canadian International School (Singapore)

9) Registration Details
a. Registration Dates                : 8th August 2016 – 15th September 2016
b. Registration Procedure         : Schools should complete the attached reply slip and return to HSK Centre (Crestar) in order to receive the registration form. Then, submit the completed registration form via fax (6282 4191) or email to [email protected].
c. Pre-competition Briefing        : 30th September 2016 (Friday), 6.30pm-7.30pm
